Let's Talk Central Elgin

The Minister of Intergovernmental Affairs, Infrastructure, and Communities has joined forces with the Municipality of Central Elgin to fund disaster mitigation infrastructure improvements in the Village of Port Stanley.This funding will support 4 infrastructure components in order to better protect Port Stanley from storm surges from Lake Erie. The project includes enhancements to:<ul><li>The existing Dune Protection System</li><li>The construction of a New Harbour Entrance Breakwater</li><li>Raising the crest of an existing dyke, and</li><li>Upgrading the community&rsquo;s Storm Water Management System. </li></ul>Once complete, this important project will help Port Stanley mitigate the impacts of storm surges and better protect homes, businesses, and livelihoods from inclement weather related to climate change.By investing in infrastructure, the Government of Canada is growing our country&rsquo;s economy, increasing the resiliency of our communities, and improving the lives of Canadians!

Welcome to the public engagement page for the Edward Street Staircase project in Port Stanley! This page aims to provide residents and stakeholders with information about the proposed staircase and offer opportunities for engagement and input. The Municipality of Central Elgin, in collaboration with <a href="https://www.mte85.com/" rel="noopener noreferrer" target="_blank">MTE Consultants</a>, is undertaking this project to enhance accessibility and connectivity in the Orchard Beach area, just north of Little Beach.Project BackgroundDuring the Council meeting held on <a href="https://centralelgin.civicweb.net/Portal/MeetingInformation.aspx?Org=Cal&Id=1510" rel="noopener noreferrer" target="_blank">January 9, 2023</a>, the Council directed staff to commission MTE Consultants to develop a design package for a potential staircase connecting Edward Street to Prospect Street. This staircase is intended to facilitate better access for residents and visitors to the beautiful Orchard Beach area.Consultant&#39;s Role <a href="https://www.mte85.com/" rel="noopener noreferrer" target="_blank">MTE Consultants</a>, a reputable firm with expertise in surveying, tree assessment, geotechnical investigations, and structural design, was entrusted to create a staircase design that meets the requirements of the Ontario Building Code, AODA (Accessibility for Ontarians with Disabilities Act), and the Kettle Creek Conservation Authority.Design PresentationOn <a href="https://centralelgin.civicweb.net/Portal/MeetingInformation.aspx?Org=Cal&Id=1561" rel="noopener noreferrer" target="_blank">June 12, 2023</a>, MTE Consultants presented their proposed design to the Council.
