The Municipality of Central Elgin will be undertaking construction on East Road (Elgin County Highway 23) from the water tower to Erie Heights Way. Council has approved the tender from Ro-Buck Contracting Ltd. to construct a 3m multi-use pathway to enhance the active transportation connectivity in northeast Port Stanley. Work as part of this tender will include:
Stripping the existing west rural ditch and stockpiling topsoil for re-use
Stormwater management revisions and installation
Re-grading of the ditch to promote positive drainage and allow for multi-use pathway installation
Paving of a 3.0m wide asphalt multi-use pathway complete with line markings
Intersection upgrades including: larger sidewalks, tactile plates and line painting
Installation of a push button crosswalk at Compass Trail / Erie Heights Way to provide a safe crossing to Little Creek Park and the existing sidewalk
Restoration of the existing ditch including hydroseed, rip rap end treatments and sign re-installation
This project will provide a safe, off-road trail for use by people walking, biking and rolling and enhance the active transportation options Central Elgin can offer into downtown Port Stanley.
This project is anticipated to start late August and be substantially completed late September. Traffic will be reduced to one lane during working hours and controlled with flag persons.
Please reach out to the Municipality of Central Elgin’s Project Manager for any questions or see the Notice of Construction for more information.
