Southdale Line Bridge Rehabilitation
Consultation has concluded
The Municipality of Central Elgin is retaining the services of RJ Burnside and Facca Incorporated to undertake the final step in the rehabilitation of Southdale Line Bridge. RJ Burnside has been responsible for the engineering design of the structure and associated work since 2020 and will be on-site to inspect works performed throughout the project. Work for this portion will include:
- Erection of environmental protection to enclose the bridge structure
- Complete removal of paint, rust to expose bare metal
- Structural inspection of all steel members, joints, and connections
- Recoating of the painted superstructure
This work will represent the final step in the rehabilitation of Southdale Line Bridge with the cleaning and coating of the superstructure. There will be no removal of trees, and no disturbance to Catfish Creek. The work has been registered with Transport Canada as required by the Navigable Waters Act due to the work access platforms to be constructed beneath the structure.
Municipality of Central Elgin crews have netted the structure in advance of this work. This will ensure that birds cannot nest within the structure as is a requirement to ensure no harm or disturbance occurs to birds within their nesting period which began April 1st.
